We are pleased to announce that we have begun working with Myriad Genetics, and on Oct. 18th our office will be offering a Hereditary Cancer Risk Assessment Program to patients. The goal of this program is early detection and prevention of (a first or second) cancer for all patients.
Q:”Why is this something I should consider?”
A: A patient’s personal and/or family history of cancer can have a significant impact on cancer risk. For patients determined to be testing candidates based on their medical history, this program offers education, personalized genetic counseling and testing for 28 genes that place a patient at increased risk for breast, ovarian, colon, uterine, prostate, and other cancers.
Q: “If I decide to enroll, what then?”
A: Once enrolled in the program, patients receive a tailored screening and medical management plan, [optional: regardless of whether at general population risk or] if at an elevated risk for a future cancer based on their family history, personal medical factors, and/or test results. By informing patients about their cancer risks, they can make more informed decisions, taking action to reduce future cancer risks.
Please feel free to contact us at the office with any further questions you might have. (301)762-5501. Happy October!!
