Dr. Judith A. Gurdian obtained her undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University. After completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Georgetown, she proudly spent four years serving as a staff obstetrician in the U.S. Air Force. During this time, she also functioned as the medical student and resident coordinator, was in charge of high-risk obstetrics, and was on faculty at USUHS in Bethesda, MD. After completing her military service, Dr. Gurdian opened up her practice in Rockville, MD. She is honored to have been listed annually in the Top Doctors List in the Washingtonian Magazine as well as Consumer Report and Washington Checkbook. Dr. Gurdian is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is an active member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the North American Menopause Society. She is currently on staff at the Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center’s (SGMC). Dr. Gurdian has served in a number of positions at Shady Grove. She is the current Secretary Treasurer of the Medical Staff and serves on Performance Improvement, Credentialing, and Medical Executive Committee. She is a past Chief of the OB/GYN Department, Chair of Peer Review, and a member of Profession Performance Executive Committee. She is also on the Board of Directors of Capital Women’s Care.
Dr. Michelle Spector originally hails from New York State. She received her undergraduate degree from Duke University where she graduated magna cum laude with a double major in biology and psychology. She then attended Washington University for medical school and Emory University for her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After completing residency, Dr. Spector entered the U.S. Air Force and moved to Texas. She was a Staff Physician at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio for 4 1/2 years where she practiced obstetrics and gynecology and was on the teaching faculty for residents. On completion of her military commitment, she entered private practice in Austin, Texas. After taking a year off for the birth of her twins, Dr. Spector moved to Rockville and entered practice with Dr. Gurdian. Dr. Spector enjoys all aspects of practice, but has a particular interest in high-risk obstetrics and management of osteoporosis. Dr. Spector is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is on staff at Shady Grove Medical Center where she serves on Peer Review and PPEC, and where she was past Chair of the OB/GYN Department.
Dr. Soma Chakraborty is focused on providing the highest quality, compassionate care to her patients. Dr. Chakraborty is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She began her undergraduate studies at the age of 16 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). After graduating from Albany Medical College, she completed her internship at the University of Maryland and her residency at Christiana Care at the University of Delaware. Dr. Chakraborty has been in practicing ob/gyn for 17 years. She enjoys every aspect of Obstetrics and Gynecology, including: normal and high-risk obstetrics, gynecological surgery and office gynecology, and patient education. She has a particular interest in contraception and conception/preconception, surgery and alternatives to surgery; including advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic pelvic surgery. Dr. Chakraborty’s goal as a provider is to make sure every patient’s concerns are heard and that they are empowered to achieve optimal health.
Patricia E. Shevock, P.A.-C. studied at Millersville State University and graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Clinical Health Services. In 1980 she completed her Physician Assistant training from Hershey Medical Center in PA. She is Board Certified with an additional sub-speciality in Internal Medicine. Mrs. Shevock’s prior experience includes certification in Radiologic Technology, which she utilized at George Washington University Hospital and Arlington Hospital. Before specializing in OB/GYN, Mrs. Shevock worked as a Physician Assistant in family practice for ten years, dealing primarily with women’s health issues. There she supervised in-training medical students. She worked for two years on the medical and surgical floors at Mt. Vernon Hospital in VA. Mrs. Shevock has specialized in women’s health for 25 years. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
Melanie Thornton-Huycke, C.N.M. grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. She attended Georgetown University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She was commissioned in the U.S. Army and served for 16 years. She left military service and continued to move about before settling in Arlington, Virginia. In 1994, she returned to the Washington area and completed a Master of Science Degree in Nursing with a certification in Nurse Midwifery from Georgetown University. She worked at several Army Medical facilities before connecting with Dr. Gurdian and Capital Women’s Care. She enjoys working with patients in the office, and does not provide hospital care or attend births. She and her husband enjoy gardening, home improvements and raising their 5 children.
